A high-profile fast-growing Consultancy that is passionate about Health and Fire Safety are looking for a Working at Height Consultant. The consultancy works with a wide range of clients across a number of sectors and provides their consultants unparalleled development and progression opportunities. You will provide a high standard of Working at Height Safety Consultancy to a broad range of existing clients, involving Risk Assessments, equipment checks, training audits. The position is home based and will involve travel with occasional overnight stays to visit client’s premises to undertake consultancy assignments 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure  compliance with The Work at Height Regulations 2005 and, where necessary, additional control measures / installation works will be identified, to ensure that all areas of the client site can be accessed safely where work at height tasks are undertaken. To check documentation compliance in accordance with relevant clauses of BS 7883:2019 “Anchor Systems – System Design, Installation & Inspection Code of Practice”.
  • Review access and inspection criteria to cover any installed work at height access systems on site to ensure suitable fall protection is afforded at access and egress points and whilst the equipment is being used, such as, where applicable:
    guardrails and edge protection (e.g., fixed guardrails, freestanding guardrails, balustrade)
    fixed access systems (e.g., walkways, fixed gantries, fixed ladders)
    permanently installed access equipment (e.g., building maintenance units, travelling ladders & gantries)
    mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs)
    personal fall protection system (e.g., eyebolts, horizontal flexible anchor lines, rope access davits, deadweight anchors, horizontal rigid anchor lines)
  • Review inspection documentation for routine inspection and maintenance of the work at height access systems.
  • Review site’s contractor approval process including checking of documentation which has been provided by those contractors.
  • Review the site’s over-arching emergency plan relating specifically to rescue from work at height access systems as detailed in 1. above.
  • Review contractors’ documents relating to specifically to working at height, e.g., risk assessments, method statements, rescue plans, training records.
  • Identify foreseeable working at height tasks likely to be undertaken on the property.  To propose a selection of primary controls that will need to be factored into the site and task specific risk assessments and method statements.
  • Identify possible areas of improvement within work at height access systems or work procedures to enhance safety on site.
  • Keeping abreast of current legislation, relevant national and international standards and guidelines and technical developments within the relevant field
  • Acknowledge legislation change and review and amend reports to suit changes To respond to requests for client work and proposals
  • Be exemplar in client management and building relationships
  • Contribute to delivery of projects on time and to budget; to manage resources in the delivery of the projects; to undertake regular project reviews
  • Ensure the use of the technical tools and methodologies in delivery of projects to the standard set.
  • Competent support to clients on the Working at Height Regulation measure and practice.
  • Self QA working at height reports as part of the consultancy team. 
  • Support colleagues in the delivery of consultancy services and ensure their compliance with site safety practices where site work is undertaken
  • Undergo training and deliver training to clients if required.

Experience Needed

  • Established and extensive knowledge of UK Health and Safety and Working at height regulations and experience in practical implementation
  • NEBOSH Health and Safety.  
  • Member of IOSH – Institute of Occupational Safety and Health or IIRSM – International Institute of Risk & Safety Management
  • Experience interpreting and implementing complex safety management systems either on a global scale, or in medium/ high risk industries
  • Experience in a consultancy role operating under an established Health and Safety and Fire Management System
  • Liaison with a broad range of stakeholders at all levels of an organisation
  • Operational site experience
  • Strong analytical and report writing skills
  • Positive approach to the challenges of change and see change as an opportunity
  • Ability to prioritise and schedule objectives to optimise time, cost, and quality
  • Strives to improve performance and uses innovative methods to get there
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills
  • Driving license
